Email marketing is a form of direct marketing which uses electronic mail as a means of communicating commercial or fund raising messages to an audience. In its broadest sense, every e-mail sent to a potential or current customer could be considered e-mail marketing. However, the term is usually used to refer to:

Many companies use e-mail marketing to communicate with existing customers, but many other companies send unsolicited bulk e-mail, also known as spam.
Internet system administrators have always considered themselves responsible for dealing with "abuse of the net", but not "abuse on the net". That is, they will act quite vigorously against spam, but will leave issues like libel or trademark infringement to the courts. Most administrators passionately hate spam, which they define as any unsolicited e-mail. Draconian measures—such as taking down a corporate website with or without warning — are an entirely normal response to spamming. Typically, the "Terms of Service" in Internet companies' contracts allow this, so the spammer has no recourse.
Illicit e-mail marketing antedates legitimate e-mail marketing, since on the early Internet (see Arpanet) it was not permitted to use the medium for commercial purposes. As a result, marketers attempting to establish themselves as legitimate businesses in e-mail marketing have had an uphill battle, hampered also by criminal spam operations billing themselves as legitimate.

First off, spammers attempt to represent themselves as legitimate operators, obfuscating the issue. Second, direct-marketing political groups such as the U.S. Direct Marketing Association (DMA) have pressured legislatures to legalize activities which some Internet operators consider to be spamming, such as the sending of "opt-out" unsolicited commercial e-mail. Third, the sheer volume of spam e-mail has led some users to mistake legitimate commercial e-mail (for instance, a mailing list to which the user subscribed) for spam — especially when the two have a similar appearance, as when messages include HTML and flashy graphics.
Due to the volume of spam e-mail on the Internet, spam filters are essential to most users. Some marketers report that legitimate commercial e-mails frequently get caught by filters, and hidden; however, it is somewhat less common for e-mail users to complain that spam filters block legitimate mail.
Companies considering an e-mail marketing program must make sure that their program does not violate spam laws such as the United States' CAN-SPAM Act (Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act),[4] the European Privacy & Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 or their Internet provider's acceptable use policy. Even if a company follows the law, if Internet mail administrators find that it is sending spam it is likely to be listed in blacklists such as SPEWS.

For instance, if you do not know how to do pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, then pick up some books on how to do PPC advertising to drive traffic to your website. Just do not read 10 pages of People magazine. That will NOT help you become successful in PPC advertising. In essence, if you do not know, you do not grow.
- Be consistent when you get the word out about your business. Consistency is the name of the game. Get your offer out in front of the right people as many times as possible. This is perhaps the most important of all the success tips to achieve the results you want in network marketing.
- Get more than just friends and family as prospects. If somebody tells you that you only need to recruit two people from your network of friends and family to make money in MLM, that is only a half truth. The truth is that after you run out of friends and family to talk to, you need to generate leads to whom you can market your opportunity. That means you have to contact perhaps 20, 30, or 40 people via e-mail, telephone, lead capture page, or whatever, to find that perfect two people to get started in your business.
- Establish a regular schedule for your business. To become successful in network marketing, you need to maintain a consistent, focused effort toward your business. That means you have to work a certain number of hours to become successful. Also, be consistent. For example, plan on working 5 hours a night on your MLM business after you get off work from your 9-to-5 job, and be consistent each day. Do not just do a shoddy job by working 5 hours one night, then 5 hours another night, next week. That is NOT consistency.
- Finally, treat your business like any other business. Small business owners know this too well. They borrow hundreds of thousands of dollars to start their own business or franchise and work very hard to make a success of themselves. Why would network marketing be any different? The only difference is that you only spend a couple hundred dollars to be business for yourself, but you still need to work hard to make a success of yourself.

Believe it or not, some people out there are paying $100 per lead and spend $1500 a month on leads. Plus, they spend around $2,000 on their company’s product. Now, think for a minute. How duplicatable is this for most people? $100 a lead and $2,000 a month on products? Can you see when it comes how to recruit people in MLM and how to build MLM, this is a bad strategy?
The bottom line is first, you do not need to buy leads especially when it is much easier to generate your own. Second, it is crucial you have a duplicatable system so it is not difficult for you and your downline to recruit people for your mlm business.
Tip #3: Take a careful look at how big the company’s building is.
This sounds weird, but it is something that should be carefully considered.
Have you ever taken the time to think about how much upkeep a huge building requires? Not only this, but also how much staff it takes to keep the operation going?
You see, when a company has a huge building with a lot of staff, the company has to pay for the lights, keep the lawn mowed, pay for electricity, maintenance people, etc., that can add up very quickly!Plus, with all that staff comes salaries, bonuses, vacation time, health benefits, short-term disability, and the like. The bottom line, it all adds up, for some, to millions a month in overhead.
You may ask who is paying for all of this? In many cases the money has to be taken from the compensation plan. Also, products prices can be high to help cover costs. Whatever the case, this is a bad scenario.
You want to always make sure you bring your people into a strong company where they will be paid well for their efforts and where products are sold to consumers at the best price. This will help them build a successful business.

Congratulations! You've got a strong direct sales downline or are beginning to build one! This is one of the best parts of being a direct sales consultant, - the fact that you can share your passion for your business with others, help them to earn a little extra money and get paid for helping grow your company as well.
Now that you are a leader of a team, you'll need to build a strong relationship with downline members to not only help them stay strong in their business, but to help your business grow stronger as well. A strong downline relationship will be one that's mutually helpful and everyone benefits.
But you may be wondering how to insure that downline members feel cared for while still maintaining some type of balance with the rest of your life. Here are 5 easy tips for maintaining a great upline/downline relationship.
1. Start off with a bang. When a new recruit first signs up, it's vitally important that you communicate often with her. One thing that I have found very helpful here is to develop a series of emails to send to new downline that talks them through those first days "on the job". It will help them feel like they are connected to the company and to you. Each day while your new recruit is waiting for her kit she should hear from you. This is very easy to do with an autoresponder system, but can also be done by just copying and pasting into an email message every morning.
2. 15 minutes a day. Set aside fifteen minutes of each workday for downline phone calls. Use those minutes to call one to five members of your group for a quick "just checking in" call. Leave a message if you get voicemail. The idea is to let them know that you're
thinking of them and giving them a chance to hear your voice. This is a great time to ask how they're doing with their non-business life as well and get beyond your direct sales company to show you care about them.
3. A downline website. Creating a simple website for my group has been the best thing, by far that I did to keep communication open and strong with my group. We have weekly topic discussions, contests, upload important files and just have fun with the whole group. Through this many relationships between members of my group have blossomed just because the website allowed them to "break the ice".
4. Meetings and/or conference calls. This is another great way to foster unity and strong relationships within your group. Many of you probably have downline that are
out your area, so have a quarterly conference call with everyone just to touch base. There are many free teleconference services via the internet that make it very easy to do. And
if you can, have a face-to-face meeting once in a while as well. Some group leaders have meetings monthly or quarterly. Others do a once a year get together with everyone.
5. Ecards. I love ecards for celebrating birthdays, achievements etc. First of all it's FREE, which is great, but it's so convenient and just plain fun. Use one of those Internet calendar functions to keep track of birthdays. Once a month go through the upcoming month and
set up the ecard deliveries for the birthdays and company anniversary dates for the next month or more. You can set these up to deliver up to a year in advance! It's a
wonderful thing. There are hundreds of sites for free ecards on the Internet. Have fun searching for ones that suit you!
The key? Communicate in any and every way that you can. You will find that your direct sales team members will stay with your company much longer when you've fostered a strong relationship by keeping in touch! Have fun and happy team building!

1. You must be able to convey to people that the business and product line has great value. This will be the first thing on anyone’s mind. When trying to recruit or increase your downline, it can be a daunting task...as it involves a lot of your time and sometimes money. I have discovered and has since been using a ‘Viral Marketing’ program that is very effective in increasing my downline. Since using the 'viral marketing', my downline has increase manifold.
However, when using a 'viral marketing’ you have to be very patient. It is like fishing. There are days when you may catch some fishes while on other days you may not get any. But, once you have a few people sign-up using the 'viral marketing’, it will spread like wildfire. Once you sign-up with a ‘viral marketing’ program it is vital that you ‘promote’ or ‘seed’ your ‘viral’. Since using this program (around November, 2005), the total number of webmasters that are under me and using the 'viral marketing' program are currently around 29,854 (as at today). If you continuously seed your ‘viral’, your traffic will explodes exponentially. Just imagine, one webmaster sends you a visitor a day, and based on my number of webmasters, you will be getting 29,854 visitors a day - for free. In actual fact I’m getting around 42,000+ daily. Even though not all the webmasters will 'sign-up' for products/programs that you are promoting through the 'viral marketing' program, nevertheless these webmasters will indirectly promote your site to other webmasters. Bear in mind, most of the people that used 'viral marketing' are webmasters and they have the financial resources and most likely join programs that you are promoting. This is the most lucrative target market and the most effective ways of increasing your downline.
Tips:
(1) Once again, let me repeat - when using 'viral marketing' you have to be extremely patient and continuously ‘seed’ or promote your ‘viral’. The result is very satisfying;
(2) Certain ‘viral program’ requires you to put their banners on your website to promote the ‘viral’. To those who do not have their own website just used the URL link they provide to directly promote or ‘seed’ your viral;
(3) Promote your ‘viral’ through traffic exchanges.
